How the calculator works
It applies the rule the Workers Compensation Fund publishes: contribution = (basic salaries + fixed allowances paid with them) × 0.5%. WCF lists the same rate for both sectors: 0.5% for private employers and 0.5% for public employers. WCF says the rates for each financial year are announced before they apply, so the calculator states the date it was checked.
- Base: basic salary plus allowances that are paid with it and do not change from month to month.
- Who pays: the employer only — WCF says the contribution must not be deducted from employees' wages.
- When: the contribution for a month is paid within that month or the following one (the calculator shows the last day of the following month).
- Late: interest of 2% of the amount delayed (Workers Compensation Act Cap. 263 s.75(2) with reg. 13(7) of the 2016 Regulations, as amended in 2021).
Worked example
A private company in Arusha has 5 employees. In October it pays TZS 3,000,000 in basic salaries and TZS 500,000 in fixed transport and housing allowances:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Gross earnings | 3,000,000 + 500,000 = TZS 3,500,000 |
| WCF rate | 0.5% |
| October contribution | TZS 17,500 (about TZS 3,500 per employee) |
| Due by | 30 November |
| Same payroll for a year | TZS 210,000 |
Limits of this calculator
It covers the employer's contribution in Mainland Tanzania only, with the rate WCF published as checked on 28 October 2026; the bill on portal.wcf.go.tz decides what you owe, including any interest. It does not compute compensation paid to injured workers. Employers' other duties — reporting work accidents and the compulsory business covers of the Insurance Act — are in our guide to WCF and business insurance.

Frequently asked questions
What is the WCF contribution rate in Tanzania?
0.5% of employees' gross monthly earnings, for both private and public employers, according to the Workers Compensation Fund.
How do I calculate WCF?
Add the month's basic salaries and fixed allowances, then multiply by 0.5%. TZS 3,500,000 of earnings gives a contribution of TZS 17,500.
Is WCF deducted from the employee's salary?
No. The employer pays it alone; WCF says deducting it from wages is not allowed.
When is the WCF contribution due?
Within the month it relates to or the following month — October's contribution by the end of November.
What is the penalty for late WCF payment?
Interest of 2% of the amount delayed (Workers Compensation Act s.75(2)); WCF computes it on your bill.
