Jubilee's health packages for individuals and families

Jubilee Health Insurance Company of Tanzania is one of the health insurers on TIRA's register (see its profile). Its website lists six packages for individuals and families. What follows is the insurer's own description, not a rating.

PackageWho it is for, in Jubilee's wordsPrice published?
Jubilee Afya (Swala, Nyati, Mikumi, Serengeti, Selous plans)Individuals and families; Mikumi, Serengeti and Selous add cover abroadYes for Swala and Nyati
Afya Bima (Afya Poa, Afya Supa, Afya Dhahabu)Individuals and families, bought through AirtelYes, "from" a monthly amount

J-Care SeniorPeople over 61, five plansNo

The page for Jubilee Afya is the only one with a price list by age. For the other packages, Jubilee's FAQ says the price of an individual cover depends on the budget and the age of the person insured.

Jubilee Afya prices: Swala and Nyati plans

These are the premiums printed on Jubilee's Jubilee Afya page (Web Archive copy of June 2026; the live site did not respond when we checked in October 2026).

  • The period is not written next to the prices. Ask Jubilee whether the amount is for a year of cover and per person, and get it in writing.
  • The Swala list has no 71 to 75 band. If you are in that age group, ask which plan and price apply.
  • The benefit limits are in the brochure, not on the page. Ask for the benefit schedule of the plan before paying.
  • Paying in instalments: Jubilee says premium financing ("Quick Premium Loan") lets you spread the payments.

Mikumi, Serengeti and Selous are described as the more extensive family plans, with cover in Tanzania and abroad; no price is published for them.

Afya Bima on Airtel: the lowest published prices

Jubilee's Afya Bima page lists three plans, each "from" a monthly price. It says the cover is accepted in over 650 hospitals in Tanzania, covers up to six dependants, and gives no cover outside Tanzania.

PlanWhat it pays, per JubileeFrom
Afya PoaCash of TZS 20,000 to 50,000 a day in hospital, from day 2TZS 300 a month
Afya SupaInpatient up to TZS 5,000,000 a year; maternity up to TZS 2,000,000 a yearTZS 15,000 a month
Afya DhahabuInpatient up to TZS 8,000,000 a year; outpatient up to TZS 600,000; maternity up to TZS 2,000,000 a yearTZS 30,000 a month
  1. On an Airtel line, dial *150*60#.
  2. Choose Financial Services, then Insurance, then Afya Bima.
  3. Accept the terms, choose the plan and pay.
Waiting periods on the same page: pre-existing and chronic illnesses 1 year, cancer 2 years, maternity 10 months. Accidents are covered immediately.

J-Care Premium, Senior and Junior: what Jubilee says they include

The J-Care Premium page lists these benefits:

  • Inpatient cover of up to TZS 150M (TZS 150 million).
  • Outpatient and inpatient cover for chronic conditions, and "extensive cover" for pre-existing conditions.
  • An annual general check-up for the member and spouse.
  • Direct access to treatment across East Africa, and pre-authorised treatment in India and Pakistan.
  • Members already covered can continue at 65.

The same page's FAQ says J-Care Senior takes people aged 61 to 80, and up to 85 on renewal, with five categories to choose from. J-Care Junior is a standalone cover for a child. None of the three J-Care plans has a published price: you get it by asking Jubilee or an agent.

Hospitals, waiting and claims

Jubilee does not publish its list of approved hospitals on these product pages. Afya Bima says over 650 hospitals in Tanzania accept it; the J-Care and Jubilee Afya pages speak of direct access across East Africa. Before you buy, ask for the provider list of your plan and check that the hospitals you use are on it.

  • Use the card at a listed hospital so the bill goes straight to Jubilee; elsewhere you may have to pay and claim back.
  • Get pre-authorisation for planned admissions and any treatment abroad (Jubilee's pages say treatment in India and Pakistan is pre-authorised).
  • Know the waiting periods written in your policy before you need the cover.
  • Claim deadline: under section 131 of the Insurance Act, an insurer must pay a claim within 45 days of receiving the signed discharge; the Commissioner can extend that once, by no more than 45 days. A longer delay without reasonable cause is treated as a bad-faith claim.

If a claim is refused or delayed, see how to complain about an insurer in Tanzania. How private cover fits with NHIF and the universal health insurance scheme is explained in health insurance in Tanzania.
